Actually, it’s a mom and daughter venture. 13 year old Lucy Lareau and her mom Liz are the co-creators of this graphic novel series based on Lucy’s elementary school experiences, where students learn to make a difference. Lucy Lareau is excited about the publication of her latest book, this one on monarch butterflies. Conceiving, writing, editing and promoting it required hard work — all while she was finishing the seventh grade.

With her mother and co-author, Liz Lareau, 12-year-old Lucy has a contract with the publisher, Papercutz, to produce 10 graphic novels about girls who use their skills in science, engineering, technology and math to solve real-world problems while becoming capable young women.

When Liz Lareau learned that her daughter, Lucy Lareau knew of a few girls who struggled to find their confidence in the STEM world, the two decided to write a graphic novel tackling the issue, “The Geeky Fab 5”.  WUSA-TV’s Markette Sheppard interviewed the mother-daughter duo on GREAT DAY WASHINGTON in June of 2019.

“It’s Not Rocket Science.” is the title of 12-year-old Lucy Lareau’s FIRST book in her girl power graphic novel series, called The Geeky F@b 5. Lucy, who attends Wilson Middle School in Moline, is the co-author alongside her mother, Liz Lareau.

The mother-daughter duo appeared on Good Morning Quad Cities on Tuesday, April 30th with host Angie Sharp to talk about what inspired them to start writing and to give us a sneak peek at their second book,  “Mystery of the Missing Monarchs”.
